Dean Burton took residence will at SilverLand Gallery in the St. Mary's Art Center in Virginia City, Nevada from March 17-19th March, 2009. Within this website he has posted semi-revised, art-works in progress. This blog is intended to be mostly a posting space for works in progress but may include thoughts and comments by the artist as he works. Your comments are appreciated.
It's a vacuum tube, so what? I'm serious, what make it so special to be called a piece of art. I have a masters degree, and am an artist, so I know the patter. But I still want to know, what makes it special and a piece of art?
ReplyDeleteDean,
ReplyDeleteActually, I like all the photos of the vacuum tubes, very historic and ephemeral and great quality. But my high school students, wanted to know what makes it a work of art and I thought I'd pose the question to the artist who made the work.
Thanks,
franklin miller
I'm interested in their architectural form among other things...

you should show your students their work too
Thank you so much for the information. The student will be spending tomorrow reviewing the site and making reports to the class about what they found. Acting as a facilitator in their quest for an answer is so much more rewarding than just answering their questions.

Franklin,
ReplyDeleteHave your student review the site over the weekend. I had to leave earlier than expected and I have quite a bit more to post. This line of questioning has me wanting to write a bit mor than originally planned I will be adding posts and refining the site over the next few days.
